TRAINING PROGRAM
The Deane Dance Center works from the Deane & Barbara Crockett Syllabus (DBCS) and produces wonderful results with consistency in training and a focus of technique. Girls and boys are placed in one of nine levels according to age, experience and ability.
Our classes follow a structured curriculum of training stages designed to increase technical skills, artistry, stamina and discipline in accordance with students’ age and physical development. As students master each level and progress to the next, classes become increasingly challenging as we prepare students for a possible career in professional ballet. INTRODUCTION TO BALLET KINDERBALLET Kinderballet 1: 3 years old Kinderballet 2: 4 years old Kinderballet 3: 5 years old Kinderballet 4: 6 years old Kinderballet introduces the young dancer to the art of ballet. Level placement is based on age as of September 1st and students remain in their level until August of the following year. Beginning in Kinderballet 1 & 2, the young dancer learns to listen and take direction, develop coordination skills as well as balance and movement to music. These youngest of dancers learn the basics of feet and arm positions while being allowed the freedom of creativity. Kinderballet 3 & 4 adds an even more serious element to the dance routine. These levels prepare the young dancer for the stricter discipline that allows a dancer to be successful while acquainting him or her with steps that will be explored and perfected in the upcoming levels. LEVEL 1 / 2 / 3 These very serious levels of ballet prepare the young dancer for his/her dance future. These levels are most important to setting the tone for clean and prepare work of the technique. Level 1 may begin for dancers ages 7 and up. STUDENT DIVISION LEVELS 4A / 4AB / 4B Level 4 is a minimum two-year program packed with information and new steps. This is where true dedication and the excitement of pre-pointe may begin. LEVELS 5 / 6 / 7 Much hard work is expected in these levels where work ethic becomes most important. These levels may also be two-year programs. LEVELS 8 / 9 These pre-professional levels take great commitment and joy in hard work. It is here that the dancer must enjoy endless focus and discipline to be able to reach his/her personal goal. Level 9 is an elite pre-professional level at DDC that must be reached to become a professional dancer. CLASS RECOMMENDATIONS / REQUIREMENTSKinderballet 1-4: 1 class per wk

EVALUATIONS
Every student in Levels 2 through 9 is given an exam on necessary ballet terms for their level at the end of the season and will receive an evaluation from teachers. The evaluation sheets will include information on the student’s technical development, areas of improvement and attendance. Student's placement for the following year will be handed out at the end of the year showcase.
New students are evaluated for their level placement during a recommended class. The evaluation must be completed before registering for ballet levels 1-9. Please call or email for more information. Depending on age and skill, students new to Deane Dance Center placement may be adjusted mid year as we become more familiar with your dancer as they attend classes.
